When to Bring the Studio to You: On-Location Podcast Production for Events and Conferences
New York, United States - August 22, 2026 / Hangar Studios /
Hangar Studios, the New York podcast production company founded in 2009, has expanded its on-location podcast production service in 2026 to meet rising demand from corporate clients, conference organizers, and editorial podcasts that need the studio to come to them. Crew deployment is available across six continents.
On-location production is one of three production modes Hangar Studios offers alongside studio production at its 417 Fifth Avenue location and remote production on Riverside or Zoom. The on-location mode is built for productions that cannot move into a fixed studio: keynote-led conversations at industry conferences, executive interviews at Fortune 500 headquarters, live audience recordings, retreat-based productions, and editorial podcasts whose subject is rooted in a specific place.
"The question we ask before any on-location booking is whether the location is part of the story," said Jennifer Chernicky, founder and CEO of Hangar Studios. "If the answer is yes, on-location is the right call. If the answer is that we are recording on-site because it is convenient, the host is almost always better off in a treated room or on a well-run remote session."
What an on-location crew deployment includes
A standard on-location deployment includes the production team and an in-session engineer, broadcast-grade equipment configured for the venue, a pre-production site survey for venues the team has not worked in before, and a workflow that produces the same Pro Tools session structure clients are used to receiving from a studio booking. For multi-day productions such as conferences and retreats, the team handles continuous capture across panels, interviews, and sidebar recordings, with each session tagged for the post-production add-on.
Hangar Studios uses partner studios in certain cities where deploying a full crew from New York is impractical and a local treated room with the team's engineering oversight delivers a better result. The partner-studio model is disclosed to every on-location client during scope so the client can make an informed call between a New York-deployed crew and a partner studio booking.
When on-location is, and is not, the right call
Across 17 years of production, Hangar Studios has refined a working answer on when on-location is the right call. On-location is right for executive interviews where the executive cannot travel, for content tied to a specific event such as a keynote or a conference panel, for live audience recordings where the live element is part of the show, and for editorial productions whose subject is geographically anchored. On-location is less essential for routine recurring conversations, for show formats where the audio quality of a treated studio room is part of the brand, or for content where the location adds nothing the host could not describe on a studio recording.
"We turn down more on-location work than we accept," Chernicky added. "When the show would sound better in a treated room or on a remote session, that is the recommendation we give. When the location is genuinely part of the story, we deploy."
Confirmed on-location work behind the expansion
Hangar Studios's on-location track record includes brand-side conference productions, executive interview series at Fortune 500 client offices, and editorial productions that have taken the team across North America, Europe, and beyond. The studio's broader confirmed show portfolio includes the Microsoft Threat Intelligence Podcast, JPMorgan Chase's Market Matters, Viatris's Listen Well, Five Things with Lynn Hirschberg for W Magazine, and Refinery29's Go Off Sis, alongside hundreds of independent shows.
