Appalachia Service Project (ASP) Making Homes Warmer, Safer, Drier, Transforming Lives
Edina, United States - June 16, 2025 / Good Samaritan Edina /
Edina, MN – Good Samaritan United Methodist Church is proud to announce its 44th annual Appalachia Service Project (ASP) mission trip, returning to Breathitt County, Kentucky, from July 12–20, 2025. This hands-on ministry mobilizes volunteers to repair homes for families in need, embodying the church’s commitment to service and community building.
ASP volunteers—ranging from middle school students (grades 8+) to adults—will come together to tackle critical home repairs like roofing, flooring, ramp, and foundation work, and drainage improvements to make homes “warmer, safer, and drier”. In a region where poverty persists, more than 15,000 volunteers nationwide serve each summer, impacting over 350 families annually. Since 1969, Appalachia Service Project (ASP) has repaired over 17,000 homes, transforming lives through faith in action.
“This ministry is about lifting the spirits of Appalachian families and reminding them that God’s love knows no boundaries,” said ASP leader Jan Russell. “When you change others’ lives, they have a way of changing you.”
