New Developments at Dunham House for Dual Diagnosis Treatment
Dunham, Canada - October 9, 2025 / Dunham House /
Dunham House is pleased to announce two significant developments that further strengthen its integrated approach to addiction recovery and mental health care.
As we approach the one-year anniversary of the closure of the Addiction Psychiatry Program at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), Dunham House is proud to highlight its partnership with Dr. Dara Charney, the Program’s former Director and a leading psychiatrist specializing in addiction and mental health. Through this collaboration, she provides mental health assessments and psychiatric support for residents who do not have an existing medical team, ensuring timely access to specialized care and continuity for those most in need.
Though the closure marked the end of an important chapter at the MUHC, the work continues through Dr. Charney’s ongoing commitment to community-based programs and her collaboration with Dunham House.
In addition, Dunham House has joined forces with the Recovery Transition Program (RTP), inheriting a team of 10 trained Peer Mentors. This partnership ensures continuity of care and sustained recovery support once residents complete inpatient treatment. The peer mentors—individuals with lived experience and formal RTP training—help bridge the transition from structured treatment to community living, reinforcing the long-term recovery outcomes that define Dunham House’s mission.
“These partnerships reflect our ongoing commitment to whole-person recovery,” said Victoria Della Porta, Executive Director of Dunham House. “By combining professional psychiatric care with peer-based aftercare, we are extending our reach beyond treatment and empowering individuals to sustain recovery with compassion, connection, and purpose.”
With its residential and outpatient programs, including aftercare services through the Montreal office, Dunham House continues to evolve as a comprehensive center for recovery and reintegration.
