Danbury, CT (PRUnderground) October 29th, 2026

Cingari Family Markets, a family-owned and operated Connecticut-based supermarket company that runs 10 ShopRite stores across the state, announced today it will host a November 2nd ribbon cutting ceremony for its new ShopRite Nutmeg Square at 72 Newtown Road in Danbury, CT. The 59,000 ft space takes up the site of the former Stop & Shop anchor store, vacant since November 2024.
Danbury Mayor Roberto Alves and other local VIPs are expected to attend the formal ribbon-cutting at 10 am on Monday, November 2nd. The store officially opens to shoppers on Sunday, November 1st.
"We're thrilled to breathe new life into this prominent Nutmeg Square space and welcome Danbury neighbors to the ShopRite of Nutmeg Square and to our family," said Thomas Cingari Sr., President and CEO of Cingari Family Markets. "Our team has reshaped this store into a vibrant community hub where quality, convenience, and genuine service come together."
The new store has undergone a complete renovation to deliver the modern, community‑focused shopping experience that has become synonymous with Cingari Family Markets and its ShopRite stores throughout southwestern Connecticut.
The new Danbury location will feature the full suite of amenities found at other Cingari Family Markets' ShopRite supermarkets, including a grab‑and‑go meal station, artisan bakery, full‑service butcher, deli, floral department, and more. The thoughtful design and sustainable technologies will ensure energy efficiency while offering customers a bright, welcoming atmosphere.
"Having a respected grocer like Cingari Family Markets at Nutmeg Square is fantastic news for Danbury," said Mayor Roberto Alves. "Their commitment to exceptional offerings and community engagement will strengthen our local economy and provide area residents with the high‑quality shopping experience they deserve."
As a fourth‑generation, family‑owned grocer with 10 ShopRite locations across southwestern Connecticut - now 11 with the opening of the new ShopRite of Nutmeg Square - Cingari Family Markets remains committed to enhancing the local shopping experience, supporting sustainable practices, and giving back to the communities it serves.
